We started 2025 with one mission: make high-stakes investigative journalism matter. Not just publish it—make it reach people, move them, and create change.
The numbers show we succeeded. NIMJN became a force for accountability in Nepal.
The Investigative Engine
Our newsroom remained a factory for high-stakes reporting. By producing stories in both Nepali and English, we bridged the gap between local evidence and global awareness.
In 2025, we fueled the engine of accountability with 113 deep-dive stories, bridging the gap between local evidence and global awareness. Our production included 74 investigations and 39 in-depth features, strategically delivered in both Nepali and English to ensure the truth reached every corner of the map.

Dialogue & Engagement
NIMJN Talk:
Impact doesn’t happen in a vacuum. Through NIMJN Talk, we turned our investigations into active conversations, bringing together a diverse group of over 100 NIMJN reporters, to bridge the gap between reporting and reform.
In these 6 sessions, we covered a wide spectrum of the industry, from global insights to local challenges. The topics ranged from sharing “Experiences & Learnings from GIJC 2025” and “Collaboration in Investigative Reporting,” to technical discussions on “Managing and Editing Investigations.” We also tackled the future of the craft with “From Print to Pixels: Media Sustainability in Nepal,” navigated the complexities of “Investigating the Climate Crisis in South Asia,” and championed inclusivity with “Her Story, Her Pen: Gender Sensitive Reporting in Nepal.”
The Academy of Accountability
We believe in building a movement, not just a newsroom. In 2025, we poured our energy into training the next generation of “truth-drivers.”
Training & Workshops: We conducted 9 major training programs, empowering a total of 230+ journalists and participants across Nepal. This included our flagship sessions on Humanitarian Crises and Disasters Reporting Using Solutions Journalism, as well as specialized workshops on Digital Storytelling for Advocacy, Data Storytelling, and Local Capacity Building.
KTM Journathon 2025: Our flagship event, Media Sustainability in the Age of AI, where we explored how to protect the integrity of investigative work in a rapidly shifting digital landscape.
NIMJN with Students: 9 interactive sessions in schools and colleges from Kathmandu to Pokhara to Kanchanpur. We reached 300+ students, sparking a passion for the truth in the classrooms of tomorrow.
Showcasing Accountability:This year, we also hosted a landmark program in Kathmandu to showcase the best investigative stories on human trafficking produced by our fellows. This event brought together government bodies, civil society activists, and editors to discuss the evidence and drive reform.
NIMJN Well-being Support: Prioritizing Mental Health in Investigative Reporting
Investigative journalism is high-stakes and often high-stress. We believe that to sustain the fight for truth, we must protect the mental health of those on the frontlines.
Following the NIMJN Well-being Conference in 2024, where we focused on building mental resilience and providing tools to navigate the trauma of investigative work, we have leveled up our commitment. NIMJN now provides ongoing mental health support for all Nepali journalists.
This year, we have provided mental health support to many Nepali journalists. We aim to ensure that our journalists have the safety and support they need to continue their vital work without sacrificing their well-being.
The Global Frontier: Scaling Beyond Borders
In a historic moment for regional journalism, NIMJN co-founded the South Asia Journalism Collective (SAJC), officially announced at the Global Investigative Journalism Conference (GIJC25) in Kuala Lumpur.
This is a radical collaboration between leading investigative outlets from Nepal, India, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, and Pakistan. By joining forces, we are building a regional shield to defend media freedom and a shared engine to drive cross-border investigations that no single newsroom could tackle alone.
SAJC is now our high-speed regional highway, ensuring that investigations into climate change, human trafficking, and financial corruption resonate across the entire South Asian subcontinent.
This year, we also led a critical regional dialogue on the Challenges of Independent Journalism in South Asia. By bringing together veteran editors and investigative leaders from across the subcontinent, we analyzed the rising threats of digital surveillance, legal harassment, and financial censorship. This discussion served as a blueprint for the South Asia Journalism Collective (SAJC), reinforcing our commitment to building a resilient, collaborative shield for truth-tellers.
Strengthening Global & Local Partnerships in 2025
Our network of influence has reached new heights this year. Through our membership in the Global Investigative Journalism Network (GIJN) and our partnership with the Organized Crime and Corruption Reporting Project (OCCRP), we have solidified NIMJN’s role in the global fight against corruption. Our collaboration with Asian Dispatch reached a milestone in 2025 with the publication of In the Shadows: The Shahtoosh Story, a deep-dive investigation that tracked the illicit trade of the “King of Wool” across borders.
In 2025, we also strengthened our synergy with the local media ecosystem to ensure our investigations triggered real-world dialogue. We continue to drive high-impact reporting through joint publications with Kantipur, while partners like Shilapatra, Nepal Clicks, and KanunKhabar regularly republish our work, ensuring that every NIMJN investigation reaches a massive and diverse audience across Nepal.
Every investigative story, training, workshop and collaboration is a strategic investment in reach. Behind these 113+ stories and 20+ major events is a relentless commitment to a transparent Nepal.
