Across Nepal’s mountains, valleys, and plains, NIMJN journalists have been reporting on the climate crisis, government accountability, and people affected by disasters. Flood survivors in Roshi are still waiting for homes nearly two years on. Glaciers in Annapurna and Upper Mustang are retreating, taking centuries of culture with them. Communities in Kanchenjunga are facing floods and landslides in increasing numbers. Meanwhile, the political promises meant to address these crises remain largely unmet. Nearly two years after the devastating Roshi floods, hundreds of households are still without homes despite being identified as eligible beneficiaries of government reconstruction support. The affected families are still waiting for the homes they were promised. As another monsoon approaches, survivors remain in temporary shelters, caught between loss, uncertainty, and delayed reconstruction efforts.

Journalist’s skill building through Data Journalism in the Eastern Hills of Nepal
NIMJN brought its data journalism training to Panchthar in May 2026 exploring ideas for storytelling using spreadsheets for new discoveries. Trainers Makar Shrestha and Shuphal Kafle drew on datasets, exercises, and practical examples from NIMJN’s own investigations to guide participants through the essentials of data journalism.
The training was organized by the Federation of Nepali Journalists (FNJ) Panchthar chapter, with financial support from the Koshi Province Ministry of Internal Affairs and Law.
Eternal Harvest, Behind the Scenes with Author and Journalist Karen Coates
We hosted a discussion in Kathmandu on 27 May 2026 offering participants a behind-the-scenes look of the documentary film “Eternal Harvest”, which was produced by Journalist and Author Karen Coates together with Jerry Redfern. The documentary explores the devastating human cost of unexploded ordnance left behind in Laos. NIMJN fellows gathered with Karen Coates for an engaging conversation about the creative and reporting journey behind the film.
